Writing and Publishing of Personal Biographies

Biographies are published by Lighthouse Publishers (LP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Lighthouse Institute. To date, LP has published fifteen books. LP, under direction of Margaret Yorgason (author and manager) will direct the jacket design, format, and printing tasks to completion of either (a) hardcover book, with dust jacket, or (b) quality soft-cover, according to budget allocated for the project. The cost of publishing the finished biography will vary, depending upon size and style of the book. Bids available, without charge, following consultation.

[WRITING FEE: TO BE NEGOTIATED, BASED UPON BOOK SIZE, NUMBER OF PERSONS TO BE INTERVIEWED, TRAVEL EXPENSES, ETC. DURING THE WRITING PHASE, SIMULTANEOUS PUBLISHING TASKS WILL ALSO BE ACCOMPLISHED. ANTICIPATED TIME FOR WRITING AND PUBLISHING A BIOGRAPHY IS NORMALLY FROM SIX TO TWELVE MONTHS]

WRITING STAGES

  1. Interview subject and other desired family, friends, and/or associates.
  2. Transcribe all interviews. Input into computer file.
  3. Write rough draft (discuss each chapter with subject, make changes).
  4. Edit (independent editor interfaces with Lighthouse author).
  5. Write final draft.
  6. Proof-reading (independent proof-reader interfaces with Lighthouse author).
  7. Polish final draft.

PUBLISHING STAGES

  1. Jacket design and layout. To be developed during writing phases.
  2. Typesetting of manuscript. Interior design of book determined and formatted.
  3. Jacket & paper style, color, weight, etc., determined. Paper ordered.
  4. Interface and sign contracts with printer, bindery and/or distributor.
  5. Publisher pays for and provides ISBN number; registers book with Library of Congress.

In all stages, "subject" of biography shall have final approval rights, and shall sign off their agreement at each stage. Subject agrees to pay all hard costs of writing and publishing of book. LP Writing and Publishing Agreement available at time of interview.
